I think the biggest limiting factor for anyone is their mind. I see people everywhere choosing to believe that just because they hit a certain age the avalanche is falling. You only stop moving when you stop moving.
Even at the gym I hear “now that I’m 30 I can’t squat as low” … oh please, you can’t squat as low because you stopped squatting that low. Or you were injured an didn’t do the work to regain the mobility. And yes there are some injuries/surgeries you can’t regain everything as it once was…
That’s not what I’m talking about.
It’s the people that think they magically lost all function of their limbs the eve of their 30th, 40th, 50th or 60th birthday because the clock struck midnight.
You deteriorate when you stop working. It doesn’t happen overnight in either direction. You unravel at such a slow pace, you don’t see it happening… but you look back over 5 years and all of sudden you’re glued to a chair binge watching everything with bed sores. The beauty is that the reverse is also true… you can start walking a measly 100 steps a day and then the following week you add 50 steps without issue. Doesn’t seem like much, but at that rate in 5 years you are walking 13,100 steps daily which for the average person is 6.5 miles.
Don’t tell yourself something that isn’t true.
Start where you are and keep going.
Proof is in the photo … 3 years later and I’m 4 minutes faster. Sometimes you stare so hard watching the paint dry; you forget to notice the new color.
